About Tyler
I am a professional software engineer dedicated to scaleable and fault tolerent systems.
I currently work at SendGrid as a lead for the Mail Pipeline team, where we develop the core infrastructure for delivering over 18 billion email each month. Previously, I developed conceptual design tools in the aerospace industry, working for NASA Ames Research Center, and Advatech Pacific.
I have a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from UC Riverside, where I worked in the Smart Tools lab to create tools capable of interpreting sketch and speech to assist in designing mechanical components, and was published in the International Joint Conference for Artificial Intelligence. Before that, I received a Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at UC Berkeley.
In my off time, you can find me playing tennis in the summers, and skiing in the winters. I'm a huge college football fan, and you will often find me at a tailgate for the Cal Bears on game day. I love the game of chess, and at last check was a class A player in the USCF. I've spent a lot of time over the past 20 years keeping up on the latest in computer chess, and have tried applying my own limited ideas and skill to developing my own chess engines. The last few years, I've made it a personal goal to read as many of the classics in science fiction, and as many memoirs and histories of World War II that I can get my hands on. The human mind facinates me, and I've taken to studying cognitive science, as well as artificial intelligence, with a keen interest in Deep Learning. A couple years ago, I made a point of trying to do at least one fun and noteworthy activity a week... something that I suggest everyone encorporate in their lives.
